Psychologist Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi argues in his 2004 TED Talk (viewed by almost six million people at this point) that the moments when we feel happiest and most fulfilled personally and professionally are those in which we are engaged in FLOW - a concept describing those moments when you’re completely absorbed in a challenging but doable task.

If you’ve ever heard someone describe a time when their performance excelled and they were “in the zone,” they were likely describing an experience of flow.

The act of repetitive creative motions like drawing, painting, collaging or embroidering floods your brain with dopamine, that delicious chemical that makes you feel content, joyful, grounded and motivated. This is the feeling of being in flow, and it only takes a few minutes of creative play to reap the physiological benefits.
