Creative Play Prompt: Making Waves

Creative Play Prompt: Making Waves

1 minute read

Waves have many different associations, from gentle undulations to dramatic crests in motion. The ebb and flow nature of waves makes for an ideal subject for a meditative drawing, as you repeat the rise and fall of the lines you create.

There are numerous ways to draw a wavy line, and this prompt invites you to fill your sketchbook with repetitive wavy lines going in all directions. Don’t worry if the lines are not even or slightly touch - the goal of this exercise is to relinquish control and embrace a slow, meditative drawing process. If you like this drawing exercise and are looking for more guided creative play prompts, we recommend checking out our Guided Sketchbook, which features 38 prompts inspired by elements of art, art genres, and meditative drawing.
