At its core, Art Life Practice aims to broaden access to quality art education and creative expression. We believe that it is our fundamental right as humans to tap into and creatively express our inner voices.
While countless young learners across the country don’t have access to quality experiences with art, we want to change that one student at a time. Thus, we are proud to partner with George Jackson Academy (GJA), the only independent, non-sectarian, need-blind middle school for bright boys from low-income families in NYC.
The school was created to engage underserved, academically capable boys from 6th to 8th grade, a time when young men are particularly vulnerable to disengaging from school. GJA creates a life-changing experience by challenging its students to grow not only as scholars, but also as friends and brothers in community.
Our founder Berry previously taught at GJA and can attest to the transformative power of the school.
We invite you to join us in furthering our mission to offer quality experiences with art to a community of exceptional young learners. Your participation in this movement is meaningful beyond compare.
For every ALP Kit you buy, a portion of the sale will go to the creation of a special kit for the students at GJA.
We are making three kits for the boys: Collage, Kinetic Art, and Still Life Drawing. Similar to our regular kits, each one contains our signature art history zine as well as art materials to create one or more works of art.
Follow our Instagram @artlifepractice to meet some of the GJA students and see their work once they get their kits! We will also be tracking progress on our blog, the ALP Edit.
